Tea with Mom

For the past few years I've taken my mom to tea at various beautiful tea spots around the city. We've had tea at L'espalier (before it went all modern and moved into the new Mandarin Orient Hotel), and the Park Plaza Hotel last year! This year we did "Tea at the Taj". The Taj is the former Ritz Carlton...the classic "Tea at the Ritz". My mom took my cousin and I there when I was about 6, but back then I didn't drink tea and was served the most amazing hot chocolate ever...I still remember it.
Thankfully, when the Taj bought the Ritz the only thing that really changed was the name. The inside was still as beautiful and regal as ever. We were sat, and then I had to choose my tea.
I chose the Jasmine Green Tea, and was served my own personal pot on a candle warmerI definitely get this from my grandmother, but I am obsessed with tea cups now...hopefully I'll have a collection like hers someday.
First was savory tea sandwiches
  • Egg Salad
  • smoked salmon with chives, cream cheese, and caviar
  • lobster profiteroles
  • cucumber sandwiches
  • prosciutto and cantaloupe sandwiches
I give my mom my egg salad(gross) and I get her smoked salmon!

My favorite was OBVIOUSLY the lobster...mmmm, I think it had a little hint of tarragon or fennel or something! I couldn't put my finger on it, but it was delicious.

Look how gorgeous the cucumber sandwich was! Then the tower of sweetsLets see if I can remember it all...
  • Chocolate covered strawberries
  • mini vanilla cream puffs (YUM!)
  • currant scones and lemon scones served with clotted cream and lemon curd!!
  • little chocolate/mocha opera cake
  • mini lemon meringue tart
  • mini Madeleine
  • mini french pistachio macaroon (SO good)
  • and I still can't figure out what that little thing with the raspberry was...it was cakey and dense and rich.
The chocolate strawberries had the Taj sealBest mom ever!!Our view of Newbury Street I had to snap a picture of these flowers on the way out...Gorgeous!Peonies, orchids, hydrangeas, and roses! Peonies are my FAVORITE flower ever.

It was a great weekend with mom :)

How about a big YAY for Monday being over! and I'm not gonna lie I can't believe the season finale of Gossip Girl is already here next week!
