Girls (Food) Night Out 2

You know when you get a group of friends together for a party or dinner and it turns out to be such a fun night and everyone says “let’s do this more often!” so you try and think that maybe once a month you’ll get together and have these fun nights again.

…and then months go by and finally someone sends an email to get together again…yeah. Same here.

Why is it so hard to get 4 people free for one night??? I suppose it’s a good thing that everyone has a life and a busy schedule, but sometimes I just miss my friends!

I love getting together with this particular group of ladies because we all have an intense passion for delicious food and we all love to taste and try everything, as you can see from our last dinner out.

This time we picked Scampo in the Liberty Hotel.

It was a nice night and we were able to sit in the patio. The patio is covered in these huge umbrella structures with paper lanterns.

We were served homemade breadsticks and a fava bean puree to start

I had a delicious refreshing cocktail to start: Prosecco + strawberry puree + white balsamic.

I was a little hesitant at the thought of vinegar in my drink but it complimented the strawberry perfectly. It added just the right amount of tartness to cut the sweet of the strawberry and you could barely taste any vinegar. I had 2 of these :)

In true ladies night form, we ordered a variety of options from the menu for the table to share…have I mentioned how much I love these ladies?!

From the appetizers we had the Chilled White Corn Soup with Basket of Hot Scallion – Sweet Corn Fritters

The soup itself was pretty good, nothing spectacular. It had a refreshing corn flavor but it was a bit too heavy for me if I were to eat the whole bowl.

The corn fritters however were fantastic!! Not to mention served in this adorable basket

They had a kick to them, but were warm, crisp on the outside and soft on the inside…YUM

To get in our greens we had an arugula salad. which had some candied walnuts and endive. Can’t go wrong with a simple salad like this.

The best part of their menu (in my opinion) is the Mozzarella Bar.

Oh yes, a whole section dedicated to varieties of fresh mozzarella offered in various preparations.

We picked 2 items from this section.

A classic combination with prosciutto, ripe summer melons, flowering cukes, & white balsamic

Such fresh flavors…delicious.

The next was something that made me very excited: Burrata BLT

Oh. My.

IMG_0740

LOVE. Bacon and Burrata??? Seriously? Heaven on a plate. Bonus that it was served with a taste of gazpacho.

Next came from the sections titled “Homemade Breads”

White Pizza with Truffled Cheese, Sherried Chanterelles, & Fig Preserves: IMG_0745

Loved the flavors, but could of used a few less mushrooms for me. I know I’m weird…I love the flavor of mushrooms but the texture isn’t my favorite. Even still, this was a great pizza and the dough was amazing!

For our last dinner item we chose the tagliata: thin slices of prime sirloin. This was served with a sweet potato puree and an incredible sauce that I have no idea what it was!! IMG_0746

No like I really contemplated licking the plate.

And then there was dessert.

Unfortunately I can’t remember this exact dessert (the menu on the website isn’t the same as what we had) but it was a Lemon Raspberry tart with an ice cream (Chambord maybe?).

Either way this was delicious!! I’m a sucker for any lemon desserts, and this did not disappoint. Tart, sweet, and creamy. IMG_0747

We also went with the cookie plate. Good, not anything to write home about…plus just could not compare to the lemon tart!IMG_0748

This was a chocolate mousse type dish. Cold, creamy, and chocolate :) This would definitely satisfy your chocolate craving! Loved it!IMG_0749

The lanterns gave a warm glow when the sun went down IMG_0751

And yes, those couches are glowing. Next to the outdoor seating area at Scampo is an outdoor lounge for the hotel itself. Once it got dark out the couches lit up!! IMG_0752
So cool!

As always, dinner with these girls was fabulous. Lots of talk, laughter, and numerous “mmmms” and "yummmms”. Hopefully next time will be sooner rather than later!
